The Person Behind the Practice
Hi, I’m Lewis Rowe, the founder of The Physio Dorset.
I’ve spent the last three years working in a leading sports-injury clinic in the south, helping athletes and active people of every level recover, rebuild, and return to what they love.
Sports injuries are my main focus and I’ve treated everything from weekend-warrior sprains to the complex demands of professional footballers, tennis players and track athletes. I have a particular interest in upper-limb injuries but my passion doesn’t stop there.
I’m also deeply committed to supporting younger stroke patients. Guiding someone through regular physiotherapy and strength work so they can regain mobility, confidence, and independence is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
I started The Physio Dorset with a simple goal: to give every patient – whether you’re chasing a personal best or just want to move pain free the same level of care and attention that elite athletes receive. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone get back to the activities that bring them joy and excel beyond what they thought possible.
How Physiotherapy Can Help You
Physiotherapy has a wide range of benefits. At The Physio Dorset, while I cater for all patients in need of Physiotherapy, I have a keen focus on sports injury recovery.

Neck
Physiotherapy can help reduce neck pain, stiffness, and headaches caused by muscle tension, posture, or injury. Treatment focuses on mobility, strength, and restoring healthy movement patterns.

Shoulder
From rotator cuff injuries to impingement and instability, physiotherapy helps restore shoulder strength, flexibility, and control to improve overhead movement and reduce pain.

Elbow
Whether it’s tennis/golfer’s elbow or overuse from sport or work, physiotherapy can relieve pain, improve tendon health, and restore strength for daily activities and sport.

Wrist & Hand
Physio supports recovery from sprains, overuse injuries, carpal tunnel, and post-fracture stiffness by improving strength, dexterity, and joint mobility.

Upper & Mid Back
Thoracic Physiotherapy helps ease pain and stiffness from posture, muscle tension, or sports strain. Treatment aims to restore mobility, improve strength, and support confident movement.

Lower Back
Physiotherapy can help relieve lower back pain caused by muscle strain, disc issues, postural stresses or post-pregnancy changes. Treatment focuses on improving mobility and core strength, restoring healthy movement, and giving you the confidence to return to daily activities and exercise.

Hip & Pelvis
From impingement and labral issues to hip arthritis and gluteal pain, physiotherapy improves hip mobility, strength, and stability for sport, work, and daily life.

Knee
Physiotherapy supports recovery from ACL injuries, meniscus issues, patellofemoral pain, and arthritis. Treatment focuses on strength, control, and returning to sport with confidence.

Ankle & Foot
Whether it’s an ankle sprain, Achilles pain, plantar fasciitis, or running-related overload, physio helps restore mobility, strength, stability, and movement efficiency.
We support you

Post-Surgery Rehabilitation
Physio provides structured rehab after orthopaedic surgeries — such as ACL reconstruction, shoulder surgery, or fracture repair — to regain strength, mobility, and function step-by-step.
Joint Replacements
Physiotherapy supports safe and progressive recovery after joint replacement, improving movement, strength, balance, and confidence to return to everyday activities.
Muscle Strains & Tears
Physiotherapy helps reduce pain, improve flexibility, and rebuild muscle strength after a strain or tear. Treatment focuses on guiding safe healing and restoring full function for work, daily life, or sport.
Tendon Pain & Tendinopathy
From Achilles and patellar tendinopathy to rotator cuff and tennis elbow, physio helps reduce pain and improve tendon health through targeted loading, strength training, and movement retraining.
Ligament Sprains (e.g., ankle, knee, wrist)
Physiotherapy supports recovery after ligament sprains by improving stability, strength, and proprioception. Treatment helps reduce re-injury risk and prepares clients to return to activity safely.
Tendon & Ligament Post-Injury Stiffness or Weakness
Physio helps restore mobility and strength following immobilisation or healing, guiding progression back to full movement and confident use of the affected area.
Overuse & Repetitive Strain Injuries
Physiotherapy identifies the root cause of overload injuries and uses tailored exercise, load management, and movement correction to relieve symptoms and prevent recurrence.
Other Health Issues
Physiotherapy can also support recovery from conditions such as dizziness/vestibular issues, balance problems, stroke or neurological changes, and long-term fatigue or deconditioning. Treatment focuses on improving confidence, stability, and everyday function.

Reviews
FAQ’s
What happens at my first physiotherapy appointment?
Your initial assessment includes a detailed discussion about your symptoms and goals, followed by a physical examination to understand how your body is moving. I’ll explain my findings clearly and begin treatment in your first
session.
Do I need to bring anything?
If you have relevant medical letters, scan results, or a referral, please bring them along. A list of medications, previous injuries, and any questions you have can also be useful.
Will I receive treatment in my first session?
Yes. After your assessment, we’ll start hands-on treatment and/or exercise therapy straight away so you leave with a clear plan and tools to begin you recovery.
Is physiotherapy painful?
Some techniques or exercises may feel challenging, but treatment should not feel overwhelming. We work within your comfort levels and will always adapt treatment to suit you.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in, such as gym or activewear. If we need to assess or treat a specific area (e.g., your shoulder, knee or hip), it’s helpful if that area can be easily accessed. You may be asked to adjust or remove a layer of clothing, but this will always be explained first, and your comfort, modesty and privacy will always be respected.
How long is a physiotherapy session?
Initial assessments are 60 minutes, and follow-up sessions are 30 or 60 minutes, depending on your needs.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your injury, goals, and how long you’ve had the issue.
We will outline a recommended treatment plan after your initial assessment,
so you know what to expect.
Do I need a doctors referral?
No, you can book directly. However, if you are claiming through insurance, some providers may require a GP or consultant referral — check your policy for details.
What if I’m not sure if physiotherapy is right for me?
If you’re unsure whether physiotherapy can help, feel free to get in touch for a
no-obligation chat by phone or email. We’ll happily discuss your situation, answer your questions, and help you decide if physiotherapy is the right option for you.
